I was delighted when asked to create a memorial for a young lady using dolphins. Dolphins are a highly respected guide and guardian in Maori culture. They are a symbol of protection, freedom, harmony and joy. In this particular design a central photo (not shown) is encircled by six koru (her siblings), with two playful dolphins watching over them all. We created a separate stand-alone base for the plaque.
Almost every sculpture request, such as these dolphins, is a "first time" for me. I love the challenge of something new and I'm blown away by the faith people have that i can carve it.
Its always an honour and a privilege thank you.
